Baysiders to take the plunge on Boxing Day

December 22, 2018 - 1628 views

Brave locals will be bracing themselves for a breath taking plunge in the sea down at Porth Eirias on Boxing Day!

The annual Boxing Day Dip returns again for those brave enough to take the challenge and raise money for the St. David's Hospice.

The event is planned by Tom Burke, Glyn Williams and Ashley Hughes with support from Colwyn Bay Watersports and Commando X-Fit Wales.

A few years ago Glyn set out on a rainy boxing day for a quick dip into the sea and since then the men have made an annual pigramage back to Porth Eirias been back every year to blow off the Christmas cobwebs. Glyn's mother was there for the first one but sadly not long after that she passed away suffering with terminal cancer.

Since then they have made it their mission to get down there every boxing day and go for a lovely swim in the Bay, partly in memory of Glyn's Mum and others effected by cancer. Each year a few more hardy souls have joined in and this Boxing Day they expect to see many locals joining them.

Participants are being asked to meet on the beach at 10.30am with the dip taking place at 11am. Everyone must remember to pack a towel and plenty of warm clothes to change into.
