The Seagulls have made their fourth signing of the summer in former Warrington Town and Connah’s Quay striker Ashley Ruane.

The 33-year-old was in the Warrington squad that beat League Two Exeter City in the FA Cup in 2014 and then joined Connah’s Quay and helped them gain a famous win over Norwegian side Stabaek in the Europa Cup in the 2016/17 season, which he rates as one of the highlights of his playing career.

The Nomads became the first Welsh side in 24 years to keep two clean sheets over two legs of a European tie, drawing the home leg 0-0 and then winning the away leg 1-0, +before losing 3-1 on aggregate in the next round against Serbian side FK Vojvodina.

Ashley, who has also had a spell at Rhyl,  moved to Cefn Druids in January and helped them qualify for the Europa Cup via the play-offs.

“We needed someone like Ashley to play on the shoulder and hopefully we can create chances for him because he will always score goals,” said manager Alan Morgan.

Full pre-season training started today with an excellent session at Vauxhall Motors FC, although a number of players are away on holiday and are expected back for Tuesday’s session at Tranmere Rovers training ground.

Will Booth had to sit out today’s session after injuring an ankle while out for a run on holiday last week and, sadly,  fears he may miss most of the pre-season games.
