Breaking: Lockdown and tighter restrictions for Christmas

Welsh Government has announced that Wales is to see a tightening of COVID-19 restrictions from December 28th with limits on household mixing, closure of businesses and controls on travel.

From that date the nation will move into lockdown Tier 4 controls. However non-essential shops and services will begin shutting from the end of trading on Christmas Eve. Close contact services such as hair dressers and beauticians will also have to shut.

In the press conference earlier, First Minister Mark Drakeford said the situation was deeply serious and advised that only two households should meet in a single 'bubble' over Christmas to help control the spread of the virus.

Mr. Drakeford stated that more than 2000 people - the equivalent of five full general hospitals - were being treated for COVID-19 in the country.
