Major maintainence work on the A55 over the next few weeks is expected to create disruption to travellers coming in and going out of the Colwyn Bay area.

From this Monday 28th January at 8pm the A55 Eastbound will be closed between Junction 23 Llanddulas and Junction 24 Abergele for essential carriageway surfacing repairs. The stretch of road will open again on January 31st at 6am.

Diversions will be in place at Junction 23 off the A55 Eastbound carriageway at Llanddulas along the A547 through Abergele to rejoin the A55 Eastbound carriageway at Junction 24 Abergele.

Then from February 3rd until February 22nd Colwyn Bay will experience 20 nights of work to replace the lighting system with a new LED lighting system that is both controllable and dimmable. The existing underpass lighting has reach the end of its design life and is no longer economical to maintain.

The works will commence on the eastbound carriageway on the 3rd February for 10 nights before moving onto the westbound carriageway on 13th February for 10 nights.

The works within the eastbound bore will be carried out over a 10 night period (20:00 – 06:00) under a full eastbound closure between Junction 19 (Llandudno Junction) and Junction 22 (Old Colwyn).

Traffic will be diverted at Junction 19 (Llandudno Junction) along the A547 Conwy Road through Mochdre and Colwyn Bay and re-join the eastbound carriageway at Junction 22 (Old Colwyn).

The works within the westbound bore will be carried out over a 10 night period (20:00 – 06:00) under a full westbound closure between Junction 22 (Old Colwyn) and Junction 19 (Llandudno Junction).

Traffic will be diverted at Junction 22 (Old Colwyn) along the A547 Conwy Road through Colwyn Bay and Mochdre and re-join onto the westbound carriageway at J19 (Llandudno Junction).

The works are being completed overnight in February when traffic flows are historically lower to try and minimise disruption.
